So if you use metasploit and you want to get the best from it when on a pentest every advantage could lead to compromising those boxes .. so here is how we add some meat to metasploits already meaty exploit capabilities

you’ll need to pull down some exploit packs .. I use packetstorm security as a source as it’s pretty good and has been for many years.

once you have downloaded your exploit packs you need to unpack and sort the .rb.txt files as these are the one’s we are going to put into measploit .

Adding additional exploits into metasploit happens like this .. you navigate to ~/.msf3 or ~/.msf4 once in there you will cd to modules then mkdir exploits then cd exploits in here is where we will copy our rb.txt files. if you open a command line in the folder where the files currently reside it might look something like this from command line  - cp *.txt.rb ~/msf4/modules/exploits/

Change directory cd ~/msf4/modules/exploits/ and then ls to see that the move has copy has worked (alternatively you can drag and drop if your smart enough to have a gui I prefer a gui but it’s overpowered by the mockery of the overlords of the internet )

strip away the .txt from .rb.txt with this command: for f in *.rb.txt; do mv “$f” “`basename “$f” .rb.txt`.rb”; done;

Boot up msfconsole

you will see some errors from some of the files that don’t sit well with metasploit … for times sake .. I delete those files and perhaps one day when I have the ability to look and try to fix/port them .. i will but for now it’s about showing you what I can with the knowledge I have .

You should see you have more exploits in your metasploit log in screen …

This process is repeatable so you can get more and more exploit packs and grow your metasploit monster

A while back I had been invited to lead a short course with Signal Films in Barrow – in – Furness, Kate Marshall had dropped me an email and we got to talking… and the project was right up my street and I had never taught anyone before other than friends and co workers so .. to do it for two weeks quite a challenge, and to do it for a handfull of teenagers … anyway, during the two weeks we covered soem fundamentals with camera’s and light but I defiantly saw more response in the photoshop 101 I imagine those Nikon D80′s might be a little intimidating for someone who may only have a phone as a camera, when it came to cleaning up images there was a clear trend, the girls wanted to ‘pretty up’ and the guys wanted to ‘pretty down’ having covered areas I thought would add the most value to them … we then finnished off with creating a small webpage with Adobe Fireworks and gave an overview on my thoughts on placing text on images and what photo’s are good for it and why.

I just wanted to say a quick thank you for the photography course you guys have been running over the last couple of weeks.

John was an excellent tutor, and I have learnt a lot, more then I thought would be possible in the relatively short time the course ran.  John took time out to help me, and let me tag along on some of his own work. The insight, experience and confidence he exudes is really transcendental and I’m in a much better place then I was, going for photography courses at Uni.

Yeah, so thanks a lot for providing this opportunity, I wish I’d known about the stuff you’re on with when I was younger. I hope everything goes well for signal and I look forward to maybe working with you again in the future,

Hi Kate

Just a thank you for giving Thomas the opportunity to take part in the photography course with John Carroll.

Tom has really enjoyed the course, as I know he will say himself, in fact he does not want the week to end.  He has learnt a lot from John who has gone out of his way to help the group and obviously put in lots of extra work, so please thank him too.

Thom has not only gained lots of extra skills but this has been a real boost for his confidence, even if he does now want an Apple Mac Computer!

Everyone has been so helpful and friendly, I hope signal films has lots of continued success.

I would love to do it again but perhaps with a sidekick and maybe even just with mobile phones 50% capturing images 50% photoshop training.

Must get a new camera.

This image was taken in Cockfosters (Pronounced co-fosters if your posh). I shot it on my old Mamiya AFD 645 a nice Medium format camera .. heavy looks serious and takes good pictures if you can.

I didn’t do much to this image except add the smallest amount of vignetting  and straighten it out ever so slightly .. i’m sure I have one smaller leg. :/

The Rules

1. Try to leave approximatly 10% of the top and bottom of the file alone. how much that is depends on the size of the image.
2. COPY & PASTE only .. no other methods or keyboard input should be added as it will stop the image from rendering.
3. Save your image per action. If prompted to save as , remember to not save as a text file but as an image format you origionally started with
4. when your happy with it remember to save it as a different image format I usually use TIFF otherwise potatoshop won’t like it.
